Its Saturday the 28th of August 2010, a day that will be remembered in both Britain and America for historic protest’s, according to the organizers.  Today in Bradford the intellectually challenged English Defense League will attempt to march though the city.  Back in 2001 the National Front did the same thing and it sparked the worse British race riots since Brixton, so its easy to see why the locals are less then keen on the idea.  They petitioned the home secretary to ban the protest and she did.  However despite the ban its probably still going to happen.

Over in America Glenn Beck will be spewing ignorance on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s historic ‘I have a dream’ speech on the very same stage in front of the Lincoln memorial.  Glenn says that when he organized the speech he had no idea of the significance of the date or location to civil right movement, something I have no problem believing when I consider his ignorance towards history.  He is also claiming to have inherited the message of the civil rights movement.   Nothing inappropriate about that, I’m sure all Dr King ever wanted was a world free from the evil of universal health care.  I found this quote from the speech “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the nature of their pre-existing condition”.  I think that’s what he said.

As we know, protests always work, that’s why the Iraq war never happened.  But lets pretend for the sake of argument that we live in a nation that had the power to ignore a protest, then we wouldn’t have to be afraid of the EDL, to the extent that we compromise out universal freedom of speech, crazy thought I know.

Both protest are ignorant, insensitive and irresponsible but today as Glenn Beck makes a fool of himself in Washington DC some will believe him, most will laugh but everybody will know who he is and what he stands for.  Here in England we attempt to gag an equally ugly protest, a measure that will only serve to drive the actions of EDL members under the radar of the police.  So let the idiots march, if it starts a riot then it starts a riot and if that the price of living in a nation where anyone and everyone can protest then its a bargain deal.
